COME
TO DOWNTOWN THREE RIVERS
Three
Rivers, MI is located midway between Detroit and Chicago, right in
the middle of the South Bend, Elkhart, Kalamazoo, and Battle Creek
Market areas. Our downtown is listed in the National Register of Historic
Places. Most of the building facades have been restored and the visual
effect is truly striking.
As traditional businesses have succumbed to changes in the retail
market, many downtown areas are vacant. WE HAVE A PLAN! We are attempting
to establish a beautiful historic district filled with art galleries,
studios, and antique shops. The process has begun with a number of
excellent shops and studios already in place.
We have spaces available, some for rent, some for sale, some in good
repair, some not. All are reasonably priced. This is an opportunity
to get in on the ground floor Come and look. The benefits are mutual.
Please contact the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce via e-mail
or by phone at (269) 278-8193 for more information. |

HISTORIC
DOWNTOWN THREE RIVERS
The central business district in Three Rivers is graced
by an abundance of architecturally significant buildings. These structures
and history surrounding them earned the area a spot on the National
Register of Historic Places in 1982. The historical marker noting
this achievement says, in part, "The Downtown Three Rivers Commercial
Historic District has one of the best-preserved Victorian streetscapes
in southwestern Michigan. Three Rivers, settled in 1830s, grew with
the development of local water power and a railroad in the 1850s."
Inspired by the Main Street Program and led by the Three Rivers Downtown
Development Authority and the Three Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce,
a variety of efforts are currently underway to revitalize Historic
Downtown Three Rivers. |
THE
CARNEGIE CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND W.R. MONROE MUSEUM
The Carnegie Center for the Arts and its W. R. Monroe Museum contribute
greatly to the local arts scene and enhance the historic downtown
area. Constructed in 1904, the CCA's distinctive pink granite building
housed the public library for 75 years. Now it's the focal point for
concerts, dance recitals, lectures, art classes, and exhibits. The
W. R. Monroe Museum, located next door to the CCA, hosts rotating
exhibits in the arts, nature, science, and history. |

HISTORICAL
STREETSCAPE
This eye-catching
historical streetscape mural now graces the "mini-mall"
walk-thru area in downtown Three Rivers. The project, sponsored by
the Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority, was completed with
public participation during the Rocky River Rendezvous (see below)
in August 1999. Initial work on the project was done by artist Conrad
Kaufman. In addition to the beauty added by the mural, many building
facades in the downtown area have received a facelift within the last
year and several buildings are currently undergoing restoration. |
THE
ROCKY RIVER RENDEZVOUS
Memory
Isle Park, adjacent to Historic Downtown Three Rivers and the Rocky
River, provides a beautiful and authentic setting for the Rocky River
Rendezvous. This "living history" event, staged on the third
weekend in August, offers an opportunity to "step back in time"
and experience life as it was lived prior to 1840. |
